Despite checking out the number on this website and seeing that it really was trustworthy (thank you to all the previous posters for that!) I nevertheless did what many advise, and rang the number on the back of my card to make sure. As I had had problems with my account in updating an online subscription only half an hour before the call, I was already alerted there might be a problem, but I was reassured by HSBC that I was sensible to double-check by using the number on the back of my card. Complete scam, pretending to be from HMRC and that you are about to be prosecuted.
Fraud Begging for your details and when you don't comply they scream verbal abuse down the phone at you for 10 minutes. Telling me that I'm going to die today, and they want to attend my funeral. Be safe guys.
