They called me today with a similar story of my new laptop downloading harmful files without my knowledge, and tried to get me to give them remote control of the computer, without really telling me what they wanted to do. I asked him to call me back and googled the number- this thread may have saved me from falling into a trap- sounds very dodgey. My advice is treat the call as a scam, and if you re worried about the health of your computer, get it checked by someone you know you can trust.
