just got a call from this number, telling me my account been hacked wanted me to download a remote access programme so they could fix it. Quick call to my internet provider confirmed this is a SCAM

As above, called then hung up. There was a campaign a few years ago, "say no to 0870." It is still valid today. Cheeky buggers expect you to call them back on a personalized high price number!
