Had a call yesterday supposed to be from BT telling us that all of our lines were going to be cut off from next Monday and would be out of action for 3-5 days.
Then spent over 3hrs yesterday going on a world tour of BT offices. Finally after another hour this morning got in touch with someone at BT SECURITY to be told that the number is a premium rate number and is absolutely nothing to do with BT.
If this has happened or does happen to you Ring 0800 800 150 ask to speak to Lisa in the security dep
Caller said he was from "BT Exchange" but could not provide a proper registered company name. Wanted to know how many "extensions" were on the line as they were "working on the local exchange" and if we didn t tell him we would be "cut off at 11am for 2 weeks".
Steve rang from BT Exchange said he needed to know how many extensions we had as they were working in the area, if we did not tell him then thet are covered if there are problems with the lines. i questioned if he worked for BT he said yes bt exchange, he was going to send me a letter but did not take address.

SCAM / SPAM
Electronic voice pretending to be from HMRC tells that you need to press 1 and pay a fee or else a warrant will be put out for your arrest.
This has been in the news, look it up. Just Google "HMRC phone scam"
HMRC will only contact you by written letter so just hang up. Pressing 1 will send you to a premium rate call line and/or will take your card details so just hang up and block number.
