Title: AMD ready to enter the smartphone market SoC in collaboration with MediaTek
description: AMD has a fairly well-established position in the electronics market. AMD currently produces processors based on the x86 architecture, which has not been well received in the smartphone market. Keep in mind that Intel actually left the smartphone processor market as it did not compete with contemporaries such as Qualcomm and MediaTek, which make ARM-based processors.
As a reminder, AMD has already worked with Samsung to design a graphics processor for smartphones, which is likely to be included in the upcoming series of Samsung Galaxy S22 smartphones. This experience should give the company an idea of what else it can do with the smartphone silicon industry. MediaTek is currently one of the leading players in the silicon smartphone market, producing processors for entry-level, mid-range and even higher-end smartphones.
It is worth adding that in addition to the CPU and GPU, MediaTek also has extensive experience in designing and developing network components, such as 4G and 5G antennas. This means AMD can simply offer the design of the GPU components while the rest of the SoC will be designed by MediaTek. What does this mean in practice ?
This means that we can expect AMD RDAN2 GPUs from MediaTek in the coming years. MediaTek produces high-end CPUs, their GPUs have always been unavailable compared to Qualcomm's counterparts, which should solve this problem. Modern products may already be in the development phase and can be officially launched when Samsung launches its new upcoming Exynos 2200 with an AMD GPU. This should help AMD show the world and competitors the capabilities of its GPU technology. The competition is fierce, but we hope AMD will handle it brilliantly.
