Title: Android App Crashing Issue
description: Recently, we had the opportunity to observe how many Android users saw notifications on their devices informing that selected applications have stopped working. Many applications started generating errors and could not be opened. The list includes some important apps like Gmail, Google Pay, banking apps, and more. The issue was constantly reported on Reddit, Twitter, and DownDetector. Even the Google Workspace Cloud Status Dashboard confirmed the Gmail issues for Android.
What caused this chaos? The chaos in many applications was caused by the Android WebView update.
Are you curious what the problem is? Android System WebView, or WebView, is a system component that enables applications to display web pages without the need to develop and supply their own browser engine. This component is installed by default on all Android devices and is updated independently by the Google Play Store. Ultimately, any problem in WebView will affect most Android applications. This is not good news but unfortunately it is so and we have no influence on it.
A recent WebView update has been identified as the cause of the problem. What to do to fix the problem? To fix the problem caused by WebView, simply uninstall the updates and restore the component to factory version. This can be done via the Google Play Store or the app list in the phone's Settings menu. Please note that this move will not uninstall WebView, but only recently installed updates. So the WebView will continue to work as usual. In this way, many Android users have solved the problems they have been struggling with so far. There is more and more information in social media that suggests that there will be no more similar problems. Is it true ? We will find out about it later.
