Title: Sony PS5 Mass Storage Upgrade
description: Sony has released a beta update for PS5 that allows users to install a second SSD to increase internal storage. When will this update be available for standard users?
We think in a few weeks. We found out that Microsoft's Xbox Series S | X offers a much easier CPU upgrade, where you just need to buy an external SSD that is Xbox specific and plug it in. However, when it comes to Sony, little else needs to be done. It turns out that it is not as difficult as it might seem. Sony mentioned that you can install a 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB SSD with a recommended sequential read speed of 5500MB / s or higher.
What is worth remembering?
Some SSDs have a built-in heatsink and some may require an external heatsink which should be less than 8mm thick. As this is a beta update, Sony has not released a list of SSDs that are officially supported. However, we hope that this list will appear soon.
