When you answer your phone and if it s a number you don t recognise, DON T SPEAK JUST LISTEN! Wait for the caller to speak first and then decide whether to simply put the phone down. Claim to be an insurance company calling about accident you re not to blame for. No indication of asking to confirm name or of any accident date.

Fairly well spoken Man claiming I had just called him from my number. Repeatedly asked me for my name when I kept telling him that I hadn’t called him he kept asking me who he was speaking to! Told him I wouldn’t give him my name as he had called me and not the other way round. He went way in the end. Not sure if it was a genuine mistake on his part but I’d certainly not called anyone snd double checked my phone, but he was determined to try and get my name.
