I was called at lunchtime today from phone no. 01618501883. A recorded message stated that they were from HMRC and that there was a lawsuit against me and that I should press 1 to speak to my case officer. I knew it was a scam and looked on this website to confirm the fact. How many people fall for this scam (especially the elderly)? I know an individual can block these numbers and I have done just that. But surely if HMRC or other organisations are aware of this scam, BT should be able to block/disconnect

I always hit the 9 to remove, however that means they get away with continuing with this annoyance. So I tried 5 to get to speak to someone (you can NEVER do ring back as numbers always dead/ don't take incoming calls!).
