Just to confirm, after my previous post I reported this number to the police, who said it definitely is a scam, and that Microsoft would never call you about this sort of thing. These people will generally want remote access to your computer to "fix a virus" or something like that. They show you some files that they know every computer has and tell you they re harmful, which is completely untrue. They then use the remote access to steal from you. The following steps are suggested:

It s a Cancer Research UK call centre.

Received a call from this number trying to sell energy saving windows and doors. 2 days later received exactly the same call but this time rang on a mobile. Number is 07879729385.

Missed call don't know number so wouldn't have answered anyway

Picked up and they hung up straight away.

Had a call from this number saying my NI number had been compromised and to press an option. Not sure whether this is a scam, I did not respond and hung up.

Asian sounding guy, rabbiting at speed about who I was and telling me my details, barely caught a word, then says BT will call to save me money on my Telephone and Broadband, then hung up immediately, never asked was I interested in any possible savings, not even the basic pleasantries of asking how I was etc... Just quick fire rabbit rabbit rabbit, BT will call me, click, all I can say is, if this was anything to do with BT, they are now less likely to be getting my business than they were before.

It is almost certainly a scammer using a spoofed number. You cannot report it as it does not originate from the UK.
