Man claimed to be from Microsoft and knew my name. Asked if I had a computer. As I did not answer and just kept asking him how he got our number (we are registered with TPS) he said it was from publicly available sources! He then said as I was not cooperating he would cut me off straight away. Extremely concerning due to his bullying attitude and tendency to answer back rather than ending the call as most of them do.

Looked like a local number so I answered but the phone line was really bad and sounded like a foreign voice in a call centre from another country. He said he was a financial advisor, so I told him I wasn't interested and hung up.

You get a "hello" followed by a pause to make you think that it is a genuine call, then you get the "We've heard you were involved in a car accident that wasn't your fault" line.

I was contacted regarding a Sapphire Magazine subscription following completion of a survey. This number, based in Cardiff. Very plausible female. I foolishly gave them my debit card number. I realised later thus could be a scam and surfed the Internet and confirmed my suspicions! See Money Supermarket threads. I cancelled the bank card immediately. Believe it is Scottish & Southern Electric regarding a planned power cut, but as mentioned in other posts, the female voice is garbled and sounds more like a cold / nuisance call rather than a national utility company.
