Have had several calls from this number and each time they will not give me details of who they really are - insisting it is a public service backed by the government on how to write off debt! They won t take me off their call list (number registered to German company) and I ve tried using BT caller refuse and call preference and still getting at least 4 calls per week from these maggots!

Seems to be used for some telemarketing call center - this range of numbers 1612497xxx (common feature, they use more numbers of the same range) is mostly reported with financial services, PPI, insurance claims, loans. Just block it if not interested (I use the app from these pages, no problems). Folks did they call you with the same or something new? Calling every day, sometimes more than once. Don't know who they are because unless they give their name my phone (with nuisance blocker) doesn't even ring. So it must be an automated call otherwise they'd stop trying. Love my phones - these nuisance calls are a thing of the past. I only look occasionally to see if one number has been repeatedly calling / and this one has.
I recommend leaving my phone on, but placing it down on a table, as this stops the caller from disconnecting - meaning they can't call anyone else. With luck it can be left for over an hour, which should go over the free call time and they start to pay, t
