They called,said I was due a refund from a credit card. I immediately told them I was registered with TPS and that I did not want to be called again by them. Chap on the line got a bit arsy and said "well if you don t want a refund then" at which point I hung up

Definitely a scam call. These calls use spoofed numbers, originate outside the UK and are untraceable. DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION to a caller. NEVER RETURN A CALL and NEVER PRESS ANY NUMBERS when told to do so as you may be calling a Premium Rate or International number which will incur large charges on your bill. To block the number on a mobile, see the manufacturer's instructions; for a landline either use a call blocking service if your provider offers one or obtain a call-blocking phone.

#automated call from hmrc, would be scary for an older person to receive such a call. disgraceful that this sort of thing can still happen, yet real businesses aren t allowed to contact people with gdpr rules.

Automated message saying Amazon account had some unusual activity. Amazon would ask you to log into your account not press a number on your telephone to connect.
