This number rang ME - when I answered I was immediately put on hold and played music. I rang them back and eventually when they picked up, they did not speak.

This is Kinex. They ignore ALL requests not to call. When their number is blocked they will call from a different number. Report them to the ICO - it takes 1 minute - as they are breaking GDPR regulations. Their MD is Chris Earle from Verastar. They need a massive fine or to be put out of business.

Telling me that they are calling from "BT" and they have observed some hacking activity on my internet connection. want to connect remotely and will provide a pin which will resolve the issue. Absolute con. I googled the number for Argos in Norwich and got the 118469 number and thought it looked odd but dialled it to find it was a directory. They asked what number I wanted and I said oh I thought I was calling Argos. They said no but would you like the number so I said yes. Surely they gave an obligation to tell me I would be charged £7 to have it read out to me! A total scam and rip off.
