The point of the scam is to find gullible people who will believe what they say. They are crooks who once they find a victim will ask them for personal details and /or credit card/bank details "So we can proceed with our refund to you" They then commit identity fraud or empty your bank account. Obviously you were the ones they were looking for for them to steal your hard earned money from. The number is spoofed by the scammers and the call is not from within the UK.

I answered this call and it was from a local O2 upgrades team. They explained they had my information as I had opted in to allow marketing calls from O2 but not 3rd parties. I ve since changed to opt out but did upgrade with them as they were very helpful and offered me a really good deal I couldn t get through my local store. Hope this helps others :-)
