SCAM / SPAM The machine said that they were my internet provider and had spotted illegal activity on my account. They were going to close my internet account unless I dialled one.

Fraud - Part of a smishing scam attempting to impersonate Metro Bank
Received an email regarding an outstanding balance on my former energy provider account which is bull*** since they actually owed me money for 3 months after the account closed. Tried calling them but you end up in a queue and then either get cut off or just sit there listening to a call centre recording. i.e. lots of people taking calls but none of them are talking to you! Avoid, block and ignore all communications - SCAM!
