SCAM - Someone called me from this number with an automated recording saying they were HMRC. I do not believe it was genuine and could possibly be a scam.

I don t answer unknown numbers so ignored this one as usual, and when no voicemail was left I called it back from a landline. An automated message picked up: "You have been called by Media Match. The call was not important but we will try again later." I blocked it immediately.

Fake HMRC message saying they'll initiate legal action against you
If enough people lodge formal complaints with the Information Commissioner s Office (ICO) by phoning 0303 123 1113 to provide details of calls from 0160320019 something can be done. Automated calls sent to you without permission, irrespective of whether you are TPS registered, are a breach of the rules. The ICO recently fined a marketing company £440,000 for spamming. Wouldn t it be nice if the agency could achieve something similar here. So do something about it.

Sounded like a telemarketer. I answered at some inconvenience because I am undergoing treatment at a cancer hospital & get calls re my treatment changes from various numbers - but after a few seconds silence I was cut off so I phoned back.Sshe said she was from a firm called Refund Experts who help with claims against stockbrokers. I said you are telemarketing. She said: No, it s a courtesy call. I replied to this misnomer: I call it telemarketing and ended the call politely.
