This is a genuine Santander number but it is not impossible for a fraudster to appear to be calling from it (or any number). Santander will not call you without a valid reason so unless you are certain you have never had any previous dealings with Santander, Abbey National, Alliance & Leicester or Girobank you should follow the advice to take the caller s name and ring back to a published Santander number using either a different landline or a mobile.
