They knew my address then asked me to confirm my date of birth. I told them i was not giving it to them as i had never heard of them. When i said this they hung up!

Got a call from this number earlier. 01229 473762. The "01229" IS our national UK code and the "47" is particular to our local area but we think it was a scam attempt. Foreign accent named "John" saying he was from BT which we don't use! Can these shysters actually manage to appear to be local when probably ringing (on a phishing trip) from abroad?
