I had a call from this number, today, claiming that I had asked a question about my business. This, of course, was not true. When I said that I did not have a business they rang off. Clearly a scam.

This is a scam from an aggressive Indian pretending to be from BT Open Reach. He hung up when challenged. The real BT say BT Open Reach/Zone is not customer facing and do not call people. If you have call blocking on your telephone you can block the last call by dialling 1572.
There is no way to stop this company doing this? Even if I block they keep calling me with a different number. This must be illegal.

This is British Gas I just had boiler serviced. I have answered the call but they keep calling, they call to try to con you into having a new boiler installed. It now needs answering again to let them know you are just going through the channels to report them and they can get fined. See previous comment. These Jingly bar stewards just call a slightly different number making the BT call blocker a complete and utter waste of timer. BT are just a bunch of fraudsters as well and will do nothing to prevent these nuisance calls as are the Government and Offcom. Another valid point is that when someone states on their merchandise "STOPS UP TO 99% OF NUSIANCE CALLS" I would suggest that 1% is up to 99% and they should be prosecuted under the Trades Description Act.
