Got a call from this number earlier. 01229 473762. The "01229" IS our national UK code and the "47" is particular to our local area but we think it was a scam attempt. Foreign accent named "John" saying he was from BT which we don't use! Can these shysters actually manage to appear to be local when probably ringing (on a phishing trip) from abroad?

Insurance business - ambulance chasers, probably recorded voice "Have you ever had an road traffic accident" or something similar, I ended the call. Seems to be the same call centre as 07722407332, 07722407970 - all the same range 077224079xx. I have been using the ShouldIAnswer mobile application from these pages, works fine, can stop such calls and also a range of numbers (very usefull for bocking call centres). No problems.

This is a genuine call/text from HSBC Fraud Department. Thought it might be a scam so I contacted HSBC from the number on the back of my Business Commercial Card and they put me through to their Fraud Department who knew all about the contact request without me having to provide the reference number. They told me all the transactions I had made on my card and all I had to do was confirm them. My card was unblocked straight away. From Vodafone but didn't know my name or any details of mine, just asked for account holder. swiftly told them that I wasn't interested and they left me be .
Asked if I was XXX. I said no and then he asked if I know him. I said he hadn't even introduced himself and he insulted me and hung up.
Phoned twice. The first time I rejected the call. The second time I answered but no-one spoke. Will be blocking the number.
