You cannot be charged for answering a call. The numbers are spoofed by scammers and are from outside the UK so the TPS has no effect.

Caller pretended he was from BT but after 20 minutes I realised it was fake. He wanted access to the computer and I didn t give it to him
A nuisance call (probably re-routed via an overseas call centre) asking if house needed repairs. Company sounded like 'Housing disrepair service' No reason to have my number. Reported to TPS

Answered this call as its my local area code and all I got was a giggle and then they put the phone down ! I didn't bother calling back as wondered if it is a scam !
