SCAM automated voice claiming to be from a government agency
Fraud Had text claiming to be be from Starling Bank - text came through on same message thread as previous verification code so I thought it was genuine. Text advised suspicious activity in my account for which they would be contacting by phone (which they did the next day) They already had lots of my identifying info and put me through other checks. They’d cleared thousands out of my account by the time I’d called Starling bank a few hours later.
Total silence, caller terminated after two seconds. DO NOT return the call. Just as with e-mails, such action confirms to the originator that the number has a human on the end and then, the response is saved for use by the cold caller company that uses it. Although displayed STD might lead you to believe its originator s location (in this case, London), geographic numbers can be applied for by a company regardless of actual location. TAXES / HMRC - obviously recorded/robotic male voice claiming to represent HMRC and telling me to press 1 to be connected, if I don't press 1 a warrant will be issued and I will be arrested. Clearly nonsense and a scam but potentially worrying and so dangerous in my view.

I had a financial review meeting booked via Cpr. I found the whole process to be very good. The appointment was booked and confirmed by Cpr then the advisor. Will full FCA authorisation. Giving me all the information I needed to check the firm out before the meeting. The advisor has sorted out my old pensions, poor performing investments and sorted out I seriously underinsured, in relation to my mortgage, something I would never have known. Very worthwhile. 100% not a nuisance call or scam
