The caller tried to persuade me that a) they were from BT and b) that cyber-hackers were piggy-backing my internet connection to download illicit material without having to reveal who they are. I questioned them e.g. saying 'why should they need to use my line?' since it's so easy to download stuff anonymously from anywhere in most countries around the world. I was called by these people and sold a policy to cover my Hotpoint appliances for 12 months. The person seamed to know about my Hotpoint purchases and gave the impression that hes was actually from Hotpoint. I took out the cover and cancelled an existing cover with Legal and General. When I wanted a repair doing and contacted Hotpoint they arranged the repair and then told me I had no cover in place and billed me. Seems to be used for some telemarketing call center - this range of numbers 17734052xx (common feature, they use more numbers of the same range) is mostly reported with debt management - financial services, but also insurance marketing - accident chasers. Just block it if not interested (I use the app from these pages, no problems). Folks did they call you with the same or something new?

Cold call. I checked with my supplier Welsh Water who confirmed it was a genuine marketing call. I recommended to Welsh Water that their website should state that Accent make calls on their behalf. Otherwise Welsh Water will be wasting its money if recipients of call refuse to respond to the survey.
