Knew it was a scam so said i would renew but just needed to get my card. Kept him waiting 5 minutes then read out totally made up card. He said there must be some digits wrong. I said NO it is correct as i got some petrol at the weekend using this card.Said i would get my wife's card so told him to hold.Again another 5 minut

I believe they re trying to find numbers which are "live" so they can sell them on to telemarketers and other unscrupulous types. Grotty little businesses. The best way of doing that is calling and then seeing which phones get answered. If a phone is answered then it must be "live" so they hang up and that number is sold on to a 3rd party. Then if you own the number and you answered you get even more nuisance calls.
