recieved a call R.E washing machine, i replaced mine last week so was not needed. however didnt see this as a scam its a company simply offering a service. just not a service i require.

Fraud?? Claimed to be from Telephone Preference Service. She was going to block nuisance calls for life but needed to confirm my ID. Asked questions about my debit card expiry date which she believed was how I paid for my telephone bill, which bank it was with and how my name appeared on the card etc kept saying that she was not asking for any sensitive information. The number was unrecognised when I called it back.

This was an unidentified call to our XD land line number, and was a pre-recorded call by a woman with a professional English accent, proffering PPI claim services. The message has been recorded on our security system, and compared to other pre-recorded calls from different numbers. The voice characteristics match. We have reported this to Ofcom, who issued a batch of numbers including this to a telecoms provider run by an Asian businessman in London. The company is known by various names, including Cheers,

As earlier comments mention... pretending to be from BT technical department "regarding your broadband connection". Although there was a long delay before a voice was heard. A lady with a very strong Indian accent. This is undoubtedly a scam. 2nd call today.
