I ve had these calls loads (on my mobile) and like someone said in another comment I like to mess with them. I get a couple of random (but real) registration numbers and string them along.

Picked-up phone, but did not speak. They rang off immediately.
claiming to be Avro Energy. Wanted meter reading and our address and postcode even though we have a smart meter. Would not confirm they were who they said they were and rung off.
