She confirmed to me that 01614867770 is one of their numbers, but it s for a different department from her own department. TAXES / HMRC Inbound call from this number to my mobile. Voice recording advised that an arrest warrant had been issued for tax evasion and to press 1 to speak with someone. At this stage I disconnected the call. Definitely a scam/waste of time. I'm sure if an arrest warrant was issued for tax evasion I'd find the police knocking on my door, not an automated call from London.

Got this call today so looked it up on this site. One thing though - if it s clear pretty quickly that it s a cold caller that you don t want to speak to, just say "no" and put the phone down. No need for a polite conversation. No need for "no thank you very much". Just put the phone down. They are being extremely rude by intruding into your day so you allowed to be rude back by just hanging up straight away. Much easier for you.
