Call from this number saying a big charge to my (?) Amazon account, to press 1 etc etc. This appears to be a genuine private number in South of UK,

Scam clearly a scammer, ask them how the weather is in Kolkata India, or how the view is from the Genisis building. Waste their time as much as possible so that they won't be able to scam as many people.

Received SMS from this number asking if I was called Alice. I replied no. Then they introduced themselves as Cindy Yip a woman from Taiwan living in Chelsea and asked for my name.
HSBC mortgage department. Not a scam or fraudulent in any way. The fraud department confirmed this for me.

This is a spam number. They pester repeatidly asking you to authorise or decline large transfers from your bank account. They never declare what bank they claim to be. IT IS A SCAM. DO NOT FALL FOR IT. DO NOT PRESS OPTIONS 1 OR 2 AS YOU MAY BE CHARGED FOR A PREMIUM RATE CALL.
