Caller who did not identify himself said he wanted to talk to me about my domestic appliances. He did not use my name or say what domestic appliances he wanted to talk about, or why he wanted to talk about them. I had a call from this number this morning at 10.49 (approx) and a recorded message came which told me that my Visa card had been used by someone for £900. I didn't bother to listen to the whole message as it was obvious to me that it was a scam. Interestingly I waited a few minutes and then called the number back (which I don't usually bother to do) and a very nice lady answered who said that she ran a clinic. It became obvious that she was genuine and that the scammers had used her number.
This unsolicited call claimed that she wished to give me a £119 refund because I was overcharged on the guarantee when I bought my washing machine She requested detail of my bank and the account number.from : (a) recent bank statement - i explained that I had none in hand (b) my cheque book - I explained that I no longer used this (c) from my debit card - I said that I was told never to divulge this unless to a clearly identified person I requested her name, the full address of where she was speaki

They were indian, male and middle aged, they identified themselves as John Martin. I am ex-directory and my phone is registered with the telephone preference service to block sales calls and unwanted calls.
