It attempted to get me to message the phone number via WhatsApp. The person had sent an SMS from another number (07566706069) claiming to have dropped their phone down the toilet and that they’d instantly acquired a new phone. They asked me to message specifically via WhatsApp (???). This is the fourth message I’ve had this week, from a variety of unknowns, being asked to message a new number by someone claiming to have lost/damaged their phone.

SCAM - pretending to be from BT - about my internet speed. BT is not my ISP, but call using a local Derby number told me that BT is the parent company of all Interned and Broadband services, not true! Trying to force me to check my speed when I can check it through my own ISP. Wouldn't take no for an answer, told him I am going to call BBC Scammers and he hung up.

Told me that there had been suspicious transactions on my account and tried to get me to speak to them. I hung up and checked with my bank who told me that nothing of the sort could have happened. Nuisance call from someone suggesting that the warranty on my 16 year old washing machine has expired and needs to be renewed. Phishing for people to pay for a warranty on a washing machine purchased in 2006 is a scam to steal money from unwary recipients.

SCAM - Call to my landline at 9.53 today. It was a pre-recorded message saying they were querying a suspicious Debit Card payment of £600 sent abroad. They did not say what bank or give any other details. I was asked to press 1 to speak to someone or 2 to confirm. I hung up.
