TAXES / HMRC Automated number saying I’ve committed tax fraud and to press 1 to speak to an officer. I just hung up. Then I phoned it back and it said calls to this number are not being connected. So it’s a SCAM

The individual announced themselves as Alpine Group but having recently received a call from another similar number last week, I told the female caller to STOP THERE! then hung up. I did speak to one of their operatives & he was asking a lot of questions which I refused to answer. Had a call about our washing machine warranty being out of date. He rang off when I asked a few questions about their company [difficult to hear what he said at this point] and how he came by his information. Usual garbage, but sounded British. This might be a follow up from a so-called survey I foolishly agreed to go through a few days ago - and during which I asked NOT to be contacted from, I assume, the people instigating it in the first place. Caller (in a thick Indian / Asian accent) asked by name for a previous user of my number. When I said I wasn t that person and enquired as to who he was, he got very abusive and terminated the call. Almost certainly a scam of some sorts.

A woman with heavily accented English called me this morning from a number with our local dialling code saying the call was from BT and there were reports that we were having trouble with the internet. No problems at all and I said so. She asked me to try the internet, so I told her I couldn’t hear her very well. She cut the call. Funny that! I phoned the number and was told it wasn’t in service!!

Received a call from this number from a man asking for my husband. Suspecting it was a sales call, I said that my husband wasn t in, and asked if I could help. He put the phone down. Have now saved this number on caller id as "Do Not Answer"!
