The individual announced themselves as Alpine Group but having recently received a call from another similar number last week, I told the female caller to STOP THERE! then hung up. You cannot be charged for answering a call. The numbers are spoofed by scammers and are from outside the UK so the TPS has no effect.
Definitely a scam. BT, Openreach, TalkTalk, Virgin etc., will never call you about a technical issue unless you contact them.

Today I have received my third consecutive call from these people in three days. Each call implied that my computer had been compromised. Todays call was the most aggressive so far. Because I refused to switch on my computer I was told that they would put a block on my access and that I will be billed for £200.
I received a missed call from this number today which I didn t answer. They left me a voicemail which just said for more information press 5. To opt out of these reminders press 9 I have no idea who it is so I pressed 9 and it is now on my blocked list! So annoying, they all need to be stopped
