A SCAM CLEARLY. Just had a call from this number; very british names, indian accent. Claimed they were from HMRC, gave me ID badge numbers, the full monty. Told me I had an outstanding debt that had gone into coercive collection, that there was a warrant in my name just about to be issued (today!), but that if I cleared the debt immediately, the action would be stopped. Asian male, very aggressive, calling from Brummie Refunds, Birmingham. Trying to con ppl into PPI refunds. Hardly spoke English, probably shipped in on the back of the lorry and working for £1 an hour. Caller shouted everything, "I sign you up, I sign you up!!" Very intimidating. I have a great simple idea on how to stop these people calling... 1) Buy a personal alarm 2) when these people call, put the alarm next to the mic of your mobile (for maximum effect) 3) quick 10 seconds blast on the alarm The caller will definitely get a shock of your life and maybe a broken eardrum (YES!!) - they will be off work for few days, 1 less person working in these horrible call centres - less people they can scam!! Call supposedly from British Gas asking if we were in the following day so engineer could check our appliances under the protection plan. I said I didn t think I had appliances covered, the caller said No you don t, it s to check your boiler I then said I din t think the check was due for another 3 months at which point they hung up.
