I didn't recognise the number so didn't answer but they didn't leave any message on my answerphone. As it was a number local to me I called it back but BT said the number wasn't recognised so looks like a scammer

SCAM - say they are O2 and you can get 40% off your bill. They send 2 texts but these are genuinely from O2 and are triggered because they are trying to log into your account online as they speak to you.
Answered call to find a charming "David" seeking information on an appallingly bad line. Rang off as a precaution

This number messaged me saying hi mum this is my new number please save when I mesaaged back saying who is this, they came back saying your eldest. When I tried to call the number they didn't answer it went to o2 answering service. This was not my eldest.
Yet another energy advisor type call When he stopped for breath I said that I was TPS register and the line went dead.

SCAM. This is a scam. The caller claims to be identifying tenants of problem landlords who are not maintaining the property. They will take enforcement action against the landlord and recover their costs from the landlord. Called them back. Automated Voice with an American accent said Welcome to ALTC gave two options. One to connect to agent , two to put my number on a don’t call list. Did neither. Hung up and blocked number on phone
An abrupt call demanding who I was followed by another 6 calls in the next hour. No voicemail left.
