My elderly mother had a call from this number today, lucky I was there and answered. They claimed to be from BT saying that as she has been a long term customer they were going to give her a reduced line rental for three months and free internet access, when I asked how do I know that it is BT, they hung up, called 1471 to get the number but when you phone the number a voice tell you the number is not used

An Asian-sounding voice allegedly called John called from what sounded like a call centre. He claimed to be from some "preference service" and wanted to ask "three simple questions". He hung up when I asked them not to call me again.

They called and hung up. I didn't call back as there's a scam now where if you call back certain numbers it shows up on your bill as you've called them back and it's listed as anything from 1 to 12 hours. This bill is about 300 quid so if it's genuine they can leave a message as far as I'm concerned
