Received a call from 01217448612. Someone with a south Asian accent in what sounded like a call centre, pretending to be from BT (old scam, saying there was a problem with the Internet connection). I checked on sites such as this and couldn't find anything so I called the number). It was answered by someone with a very different accent, in a silent background environment, who assured me it was her home landline. Can dodgy callers now have someone else's number given on the display of the person they call?

this is a scam
Very insistent! They sell gas and electricity. Called 3 times and I said no everytime, but they are so persistent. I blocked this number and hope they don t have other numbers.

Claimed to be from O2 and that I was overpaying for my O2 account (I don't use O2). Told me they would offer me a discount with no other changes to be made. Wanted to send a verification number that I was not to share with anyone else "even 02 staff". Hung up when they realised I wasn't falling for it - I strung them along for at least a few minutes.
Scam automated message: "THIS IS HMRC PLEASE CALL BACK OR WE WILL ISSUE AN ARREST WARRANT"
