I used ring back - not a good idea on reflection. The male voice asked my name and so I asked his. He said "Roger". I felt this was a bit inadequate and so asked again at which point he got stroppy: "I ve told you". I hung up.

They asked for my wife - using her maiden name and we ve been married for 11 years, where do they get their info from?! Apparently 01234 339 numbers are allocated to BT, who in turn have sublet them to rogue operators like this. Anyroad: add this no. to your blocklist. You can t live without a phone with nuisance call protection nowadays.

Sounded like automated Halifax scam wanting to go through recent activity and wanting D/O/B.

Cold call Re: hotel rooms for a trade show you have attended or are booked to attend, May be a real room deal. But past experience shows this sort of call comes from a scamm...

I worked for a blinds company years ago on the phones and its where the data came from. Lifestyle would ask the person if they would want blinds in the future. This is the UK version of a scam running amok in the US. The supposed company, microsoftechs.com, contacts people and claims there is an issue with their computer. The claim to be partnered with Microsoft and gain confidence with all the classic scam talk.
