The caller knew my surname, I couldn't quite pick up the name they gave I think it was something like "charter" they said they'd be able to save me money on bills then proceeded to ask which newspaper I read before I hung up.

Very muffled call. I knew when I heard the background noise it was PPI so I just played along for a laugh. Claimed it was refund department and I just kept asking which company etc until he hung up in frustration. A good laugh!

I know the university does fundraising drives amongst alumni but these calls stress not just a nuisance but very intrusive. I understand the Uni says it wants to improve the lot of students but given the vast fees students have to pay that really do not equate to what they are provided with, I think it's a joke, not to say insulting, chasing alumni for money in this devious manner. If I get a genuine text, I don't then search that number on the internet and then make a comment on a site that deals with dodgy phone numbers.
