After a pause the called asked for "Mr Gay". When I said he was not on this number and asked who was calling they hung up. I tried to ring back but got the unobtainable tone.

Caller (Tom) says a cheque for £3100 due, and something about a cancellation call relating to an Abbey (?) bank account. Calling my elderly father s number. I believe this to be a scam. Fortunately my father isn t able to return the call.

These are Agents, probably working for Energy Consultants. The prices they get for you will include a significant commission. They will lie and harass you into agreeing contracts. Dunno who it is but rang back and no one talks and there's no background noise. Blocked them.
