They said they were calling from HMRC, however HMRC never calls mobile numbers. Phone scams are a common way for criminals to con people out of money using various tricks to get your personal or financial information. Finally when the "agent" picked up the call, I asked them where they got my number and the "agent" clearly trying to avoid to answer started asking for my personal details. I said that since they

SCAM posed as my daughter on WhatsApp and asked me to pay a bill. Very plausible but bank fraud team picked up on it thankfully
Being used for phishing. Claims to be from bank security warning of large amounts taken from your card, usually including Amazon, but, as usual, does not specify which bank or card.

They say they can do me an IPhone 13 for £10 less than the deal I have at the moment on an IPhone 12. Never trust a cold call... Sounded like a call centre of some sort as noise in background. Could have easily been from abroad as the womans english wasnt great and the call went silent after she had spoken. anyway...
Safe number - NHS - NHS Business Services Authority - legit organisation who deal with a few things, including EHICs, NHS pensions, exemption from health charges (prescriptions, dental, optical and travel for medical treatments) etc. Definitely answer!

strange unsolicited call from number belonging to: 'W A Read & Sons Ltd' Upon answer there was no reply and the phone put down. I called them several times over and got redirected to voicemail until they eventually gave up and answered. Lady picked up and I asked "What do you want"? No response and phone was put down. This happened two more times. They then disconnected the phone it seems.
