Guy with very strong Indian accent, calls within seconds of me posting an advert on Gumtree. Said he was from Victoria Insurance and that it was about my recent minor road traffic accident I reported a couple of days ago. Told him I ve never had an accident and hung up. Number now blocked. I did not answer, but wanted to check the number out first. there was no bad report on the number. when I tried to return the call there was no answer then a "click" in the line and a message that the "other person had hung up". this makes me think it s somebody trying to sell you something nobody wants

SCAM. This caller tried to say they were from Virgin Media and yet they were not able to tell me my name. They were calling about my internet service.

Automated message in poor English purporting to be from the Bank of England and saying that your National Insurance number is about to be terminated. Who knows, or even cares, why? This is one from a whole list of numbers carrying the same message, some from Russia and some from Manchester.

They called me, I answered, then they hung up.
Fraud. I got a recorded message in an American accent saying that a criminal case has been filed against me for tax evasion. I think I am probably stupid enough to accept this and panic, but I don't believe it and burst out laughing. I think the accent tipped me of 'cause the patter was quite believable(NOT!).
