Claimed to be Octopus energy wanting to check account details. I put them off and called octopus to check - they said no-one from the company had phoned my number.

Automated message apparently from HMRC. Fraud case against me - hung up.
Recorded female voice telling me that my internet connection was about to be terminated because of US hacking.Then went onto a push button menu at which stage I hung up!
This number rang me and said there was an attempt to take 600 pound from my credit card.and informed me I needed to press button 1 on phone to stop transaction. No other information was asked for.i ended call

Wife picked up phone but always wary due to my insistence and previous experience; just heard the woman on the other end ask her if she was *name, and asked if she "was the main user of her computer"; at that point, my wife put the phone down with a cursory "Not interested"

Call answered. They asked if I was me (mentioned my name) I said yes. Then they cut the call
I've been getting a series of calls from variations of the same first 8 digits '020 3256 5***' Seems extremely fishy so I haven't answered any of them. Probably a call centre.
