2 messages were left on my parents' answer machine, supposedly from HMRC, along the lines of they were going to be sued and might need a solicitor. They knew not to reply, but said the voice was well spoken and could well be believed by some people. Googling HMRC phone scam the first thing I found says there is indeed a scam, targetting older people, leaving messages that they should call to sort things out.
