Definitely spam, or just a random automated dialler! Woke me up on Saturday at 3AM, called back thinking it was someone with my number in trouble and got a silent dead line! Not sure if they got a wrong number but very annoying! Got a call fairly shortly after from a mobile with the same scenario..
Usual PPI rubbish. Fair play, the (Swansea-based) guy sounded as bored with it all as I am.
Tried to say they were a company (could they catch what the company was after three attempts at asking. A yway as soon as the Asian man said "were running a promotion on your number".... well he got a mouth full and a polite goodbye hahaha

This number has appeared on our answerphone but they did not leave any message. After this lookup I have blocked the number as it looks like another case of blocks of telephone numbers being sold offto con men. This number traced back to be from Ghaziabad Uttar Pradesh in India. I really wish whoever allows these call centres, confidence tricksters and plain old Criminals to purchase these blocks of numbers could be reprimanded and even charged with aiding and abetting whatever crime they are used for. I ve just had a call from this number. They said that as I had been involved in a road accident my case had been referred to them. As I had a car accident in the last week my insurance company had referred me to an injury claim solicitor (one who does a lot of advertising on TV) so I thought this was them until I was passed to a supervisor who then proceeded to say "I understand you have been involved in an accident in the last two years". It's a scam. A man speaking with a strong accent, but introducing himself as Michael, said he was calling from the "council repair service". He knew my name but didn't know that I'm not a council tenant. I hung up.

Got a call from 0208 415 1292 claiming to be from HMRC with an automated message saying that I have tax evaded, without stating my name or anything, and the message carries on saying that they have a warrant on me :P honestly!?!?!?!?... they carry on asking me to press this and that button, which I didn't ofc... I hung up... Careful guys when you get calls from unknown people asking you to press this button or that, you may be giving way for hackers to clone your phone.

I kept pestering HER with various questions in the middle of her "spill" eventually she hang up. Anyone reading this NEVER let anyone take control of your computer from a "cold" telephone call....

Don't know who it is, but when I answered, I got the silent treatment. Probably someone who lost their nerve and couldn't go on with whatever scam they're upto.
SCAM - Said they were from BT Open Reach. Told them I was with Virgin which she then spoke over me and told me they were picking up problems from my router. I told them I'm a software engineer and they hung up.

They are an Indian call centre who use spoof caller ID numbers. Do not trust them! Block them with a call blocker (you may need to block VOIP calls)or answer the call something like this: "This is the FBI - we have you surrounded! Come out with your hands up! All units - GO! GO! GO!" That should make them hang up!
