a SCAM perpetrated by HMRC? Could not sort Tax code out online and was told to ring another number. Called it and after lengthy process getting into the right Q and waiting 18 minutes was told to ring 08444740101 instead. (charged £12.25 for waiting during that call!). I rang that number and after another 20 minutes listening to Muzak...eventually got someone....30 minutes later for an error HMRC had made I discovered a charge of £17.45. for calling HMRC! these people rang on several occasions from various numbers around the country as I blocked them one by one. they rang whilst I was at work, even though I said not. The last call from this number I told them to take me off the list and they would not give up, even after saying I couldn't take calls at work. in the end I said if you ring back I will take this further and hung up.

If a company like this keeps calling and ask if they are speaking to you, say no and ask what department they work in and keep playing a long as if you are in a multinational company. If they think you are a business, they take you off their cold calling list straight away. Have done this with multiple companies and they never ring back.
