I pressed one and told a man with an South East Asian accent that HMRC HQ is in London, not Bradford which he obviously didn't like because he hung up.

Turns out it is a local call number for an American selling investment advice, so best avoided.
Phoned today at12.15 pm. Fairly gruff voice. Purportedly from BT. Asked me to confirm that I had been in touch with BT this morning. As I had, I said yes. There was some hesitation and a lot of background noise. I asked what he wanted. He asked if contact was by phone or mail (I think). I replied that the contact was on the internet and he abruptly ended the call.
