Seems to be used for some telemarketing call center - this range of numbers 17089074xx (common feature, they use more numbers of the same range) is mostly reported with PPI, Accident claims, insurance marketing. Some guys called me asking if I was Mr. R. (I'm a woman btw). I said "no" so he said "forget the name then, your number was put as a first point of contact following a minor incident involving a car". When I explained I don't own a car, and have never in my 31 years been involved in any incidents, he just refused to believe me. Kept saying "it was just a minor" over and over again.
