ring repeatedly, then put me on hold via automated message, no matter what i say they keep ringing (on behalf of British Gas)

I was just called by somebody saying they were from UK Financial. The said they had a cheque for me for money i was owed from bank charges. They knew my address then asked me to confirm my date of birth. I told them i was not giving it to them as i had never heard of them. When i said this they hung up!
