Someone called from this number to ask me about my workplace pension, they knew I was no longer paying into it, and that I had been paying in for around 5 years, maybe some of these were guesses, but foolishly I agreed to speak to one of their advisers . Indian chap, allegedly from Carphone Warehouse. Said I could have a 5g phone with 80Gb of data, etc., for £7 a month. Sounded too good to be true, which means it probably is, so I passed. He then complained that I had wasted his time! I guess his next move would have been to ask for my bank details! Avoid!
Yes, this definitely seems a genuine HSBC number but based in the Philippines. I received an SMS about a large payment I had made the day before and they were double-checking. HSBC do this type of checking all the time in Asia ( while I was living there), but less so in the UK.
